Here is a couple of pics of the bronco itself
The grill and fenders are inside the truck
Most of the truck is in "pretty" good shape, the back fenders are shot to hell though.
Plans are for a full frame build. I have some parts floating around that I have bought recently. uni-balls for the control arms, 3/8" valves, a switchbox, and bought some 22's for the build about a month ago
boyd coddington 22's with michelin sport z rated tires, got them off craigslist
This is my parts truck that I got from a guy in the kenwood area
it's a 2000 ranger with under 60k miles on the motor
I'm using the motor, tranny, wiring and some other small stuff off the truck
It's only a 2.5L but i'm not going for speed, just want something reliable and the deal was too good to pass up
I pulled the motor yesterday, and 80% of the truck is stripped right now. I'll post more pics tomorrow when I get my camera cord from work
here is a pic of the rough frame I have drawn up in cad

I'm actually going to build my own frame table. Nothing too fancy just 2x4's and plywood, hopefully will start on that next weekend actually
I built my own tubing bender, from the got trikes plans so I am covered there. Where are you at these days? |

cool man, not sure how far it is from me these days, probably not too bad since I could shoot straight over on 50. (I live in the western hills area now) |

I hope to have close to weekly updates, I hope to make a lot of progress quickly. My goal is to have rolling chassis at layd out, and have hopefully a running truck at RA, not finished but running and driveable
shoot high, that way when I don't meet my goals at least I still have a lot done, lol |

Not big on putting a 4 cylinder into something that originally had a v8, but it'll be cool none the less! |

Cool project.
When you say CAD, what program exactly? I know Autodesk pretty well, and have tried Solidworks, but didn't get very far.
There are perks to a 4 banger. |

I was keeping it on the DL but I want to use a build thread as motivation hopefully to keep up progress. You can give me a call today if you want as well, I'm at work but can take calls 95% of the time |

I'm using autocad 2002 at work, but all the years after 2000 are pretty much the same. If I remember correctly autodesk is very similiar and lets you use the same 3d functions.
I've tried solidworks, UG, some other programs for 3D modeling and they are superior to autocad but I'm so use to doing it in autocad it is hard for me to learn it. We have UG at work, but I only look at fixtures and other hardware on it, never model anything |

And a nice surprise sunday morning, the medium sized puddle of tranny fluid from saturday migrated overnight. Good thing I brought a 25lb bag of "special kitty" with me, lol

I'd share the plans guys but it doesn't cost much to buy them, $18, and the guy is really helpful if you have any questions.
Just check out www.gottrikes.com for the plans. I think I have right at 300 wrapped up in the bender including the die from pro-tools.
I also bought this from him:
simply because I didn't want to find a machine shop and pay them to do it. I did everything else with a drill press |

Got some more work done last night. Took the dash out, stripped all of the wires out of it. Removed the rest of the fuel lines under the truck. Everything is hanging on the walls now til I get to needing them again, they are definitely going to have some dust when I get them down, lol

Dash is not going in the bronco, I just wanted all of the wires out of it
I'm going to build my own control arms, and front clip. I'm using the 2" toyota drop spindels pictured up above, and uni-balls from hm-engineering |

Same motor I had in my old ranger with 18's. As long as you have a manual you shouldn't have any trouble getting it up to speed. Don't get me wrong it won't throw you in the seat by any means, but just have to plan ahead with the speed, lol |

got the "frame" table built saturday
hard to tell from the pics really, but it is 6ft x 12ft
shot of the fuel cell I got from craigslist a while ago
I worked tuesday as well on some stuff. Put new bearings and wheel studs in the hubs, also bolted them onto the spindles
Also put the sending unit from the ranger gas tank onto the fuel cell |

Sunday I made my notches. One thing I really love about having a gigantic wood table to work on is I can easily make a "jig" by just screwing 2x4's into the top

looking good mike. Does the rear quarters on the bronco come up higher then the rest of the rockers? Or is some of your frame going to be showing behind the rear wheels |

no, you won't be able to see the frame really at all. The rear section just barely cuves up at the very end |

22's with a 28" tall tire. I think it just looks huge because of the steep angle
Having a cmm machine really makes getting accurate measurements nice and simple |

Friday's progress was nothing much, just got the rails attached to the notches
Today's progress, I got a lot more done. Plated the rails to the notches. Lined up the rails to the fuel cell frame section. Squared and level everything then fully welded it in. Also built the frame section where the upper control arms will mount

are you talking about the core support? what the headlights actually bolt to? or the panel that is welded in behind it?
The guy that is buying the front end pieces needs the core support as well |

I'm honestly not 100% on those, I know the truck has some wiring in it, but a good deal of the motor wiring was taken from the bronco before I even got it. I can look though, and try to take some pics. If I have the stuff I'll let you know. |

Im confused, what are the pieces of angle bolted to the frame for? you said upper control arm mounts, but why couldnt you just weld the mounts to the frame directly? |

I haven't looked into sectioning the oil pan, it is a thought though. Are they even steel? I haven't looked yet
The angle is bolted rather than welded so that it allows me to adjust for bumpsteer, camber, and to some degree castor. The control arms themselves will not be adjustable.
Thanks for the compliments as well guys |

cast aluminum, but u can probably use one from an earlier ranger. Or just build a bar to protect it |

there will be a 1 1/4" bar holding the rack and pinion, perhaps I will consider plating the bottom of the frame there leaving a space for the drain plug |

I might be reading this wrong but how will you adjust it with bolts going through the angle iron at two different angles? |

the holes in the angle are slotted so that it can move towards the wheel and up, so that I can move it up and out like you are supposed to typically, not just in one direction |

I have a little bit better pics of them at home on the camera, you can kind of see it in this pic
I drilled two holes .300 center to center and opened them up slowly by stepping up the drill sizes. By the time I got to the final drill size I of course really couldn't drill it any more because it would just slip off the part so I did the best I could and then came back with a die grinder and smoothed them out.
The slots only allow about .250 movement up and out, which will be plenty, I'm hoping I don't need to adjust it at all depending on how well I designed it and follow the design during build |

do you think you can tighten them down tight enough so the plate won't slip after you align them just right? |
